Zirkus / Ulster Folk & Transport Museum

Balloon Challenge

Touch screen kiosk game

BRIEF:
When the Ulster Folk & Transport Museum contracted Zirkus to oversee the launch of their new "X2 Flight Experience" exhibit, Zirkus turned to frog to develop a range of exciting and stimulating games.
We knew this was going to be a benchmark in museum interactives, as the UF&TM had just been awarded "Museum Of The Year"!
frog design a game based around hot-air balloon racing able to be played and enjoyed on a touch screen kiosk installed in the exhibit.

SOLUTION:

  • The game incorporates 10 visually distinct levels, taking the player from Belfast through London, Paris, Egypt, Australia and many other locations throughout the world.

  • Zirkus did a fantastic job in creating a bright, stimulating visual style to appeal to players of all ages and frog were able to animate these graphics and bring them to life in the game.

  • The game also incorporates an interactive quiz so players are also informed and educated whilst they have fun playing.

  • frog collaborated with the Dunville family whose ancestors feature in the game. They were pioneers of early balloon racing and from the same town as the Museum today is located in. The game also features the world famous Virgin sponsored balloon of Richard Branson and Per Lindstrand.

  • RESULT:
The level of fun and enjoyment that this game brought from the moment the exhibit was opened to the public was immense.
frog, Zirkus and the Museum are delighted with the attention the game continues to get, as it educates and delights players of all ages.
Infact, the Museum and Zirkus again commissioned frog to convert the game for Internet using Adobe Flash.
We have now also developed a second game based around the famous Shorts SC1 VTOL aircraft. These games are currently available on the Museum's website.
